Naranag Gangabal Trek

The Naranag Gangabal Trek is a scenic Himalayan trail that combines natural beauty with ancient heritage. Starting from the historic village of Naranag, known for its centuries-old temple ruins, the trek leads you through dense pine forests, lush meadows, and rugged mountain paths to the pristine alpine lakes of Gangabal and Nundkol, nestled at the base of Mount Harmukh.

Short Itinerary

Day 1: Srinagar (5,200 ft) to Naranag (7,380 ft) drive, then trek to Trunkhol (10,500 ft); 9 km, 5–6 hours.
Day 2: Trunkhol (10,500 ft) to Gangabal & Nundkol Lakes (12,140 ft); 6 km, 4 hours.
Day 3: Acclimatization & exploration of Gangabal, Nundkol, and nearby Kolesar Lake.
Day 4: Gangabal (12,140 ft) to Naranag (7,380 ft); 15 km, 6–7 hours. Drive to Srinagar.
Day 5: Departure from Srinagar.

Brief itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival in Srinagar (Alt. 1,600m)

Arrive at Srinagar Airport or Bus Stand, where our representative will receive you and assist with your transfer to the hotel or houseboat at Dal Lake (approx. 30 min drive).
Spend the evening relaxing or take an optional Shikara ride on Dal Lake.
Meals: Tea, Dinner & Breakfast

Day 2 – Srinagar to Naranag (Drive) → Trunkhol (Trek)

After breakfast, drive 60 km (approx. 2 hrs) to Naranag (Alt. 2,250m).
Meet the trekking crew and begin your 9 km trek (approx. 6 hrs) through pine forests of Butsheri and meadows of Bodpathri.
Arrive at Trunkhol (Alt. 3,200m) for camp setup.
Meals: Lunch, Tea, Dinner & Breakfast

Day 3 – Trunkhol to Gangabal Lake (Trek)

Today’s 6 km trek (approx. 4 hrs) ascends gently through open meadows with stunning views of Mount Harmukh.
Reach the twin alpine lakes of Gangabal and Nundkol (Alt. 3,700m).
Camp beside the lakes for the night.
Meals: Lunch, Tea, Dinner & Breakfast

Day 4 – Day at Leisure (Gangabal Exploration)

Spend the day exploring Gangabal and Nundkol Lakes or hike to nearby Kolesar Lake.
You can also enjoy trout fishing or simply relax in the pristine surroundings.
Meals: Lunch, Tea, Dinner & Breakfast

Day 5 – Gangabal to Naranag (Trek) → Drive to Srinagar

Descend 15 km (approx. 6 hrs) from Gangabal (Alt. 3,700m) to Naranag (Alt. 2,250m) through the meadows of Trunkhol and forests of Bodpathri.
End the trek at Naranag and drive 60 km (approx. 2 hrs) back to Srinagar for a comfortable stay in a hotel or houseboat.
Meals: Lunch at Naranag, Dinner & Breakfast at Srinagar

Day 6 – Departure from Srinagar

After breakfast, transfer to the airport or bus stand for departure.
Meals: Breakfast

We use hygienic dry toilet tent during the trek because of minimum water availability. Carry additional things by yourself like hand sanitizer, wet wipes, tissues, etc.
